Writing and formatting

The ribbon, styles, fonts, tables, find and replace, and the slash menu.

The ribbon

When you edit a page, a two-row ribbon sits at the top of the document, like Microsoft Word or Confluence. Every control is one click away, and hovering over one shows its name and keyboard shortcut. The bottom of the page shows the word and character count.

Text and paragraphs

ControlWhat it does
StyleNormal text, Heading 1 to 4, Quote or Code block. Shows the style at the cursor.
FontDefault (Geist), Arial, Georgia, Times New Roman, Courier New or Geist Mono.
SizeType any size or pick from Word's list (8 to 72 pt). The A+ and A- buttons step through the list.
Bold, italic, underline, strikethroughPlus subscript, superscript, inline code and clear formatting under the more menu.
Colour and highlightText colour and a highlighter, each from a palette that reads well in light and dark themes.
AlignmentLeft, centre, right or justified.
Line spacing1.0, 1.15, 1.5 or 2.0 for the current paragraph.
ListsBulleted, numbered and checklists; increase or decrease the indent to nest them.

Insert

The Insert group adds a link, an image (uploaded from your computer), a table, a horizontal rule, a callout, a code block, an emoji, a status badge or a two-column layout. Links accept web addresses, email addresses and links to other pages; anything else is refused.

Tables

Pick the size from the grid (up to 8 by 8). Drag a column border to resize it. While the cursor is in a table, a third ribbon row appears to add or delete rows and columns, merge or split cells, toggle the header row, or delete the table.

Find and replace

Press Ctrl+F to find or Ctrl+H to replace. Every match is highlighted and the counter shows where you are ("3 of 12"). Enter and Shift+Enter move between matches; Esc closes the bar. Options match case and whole words. Replace all is one step, so a single undo puts everything back.

The slash menu

Type / at the start of a line to insert a block without leaving the keyboard: headings, lists, tables, code, callouts, columns and more. Keep typing to filter, use the arrow keys to choose and Enter to insert.

Saving and editing modes

  • Pages save automatically a moment after you stop typing. Ctrl+S saves at once.
  • If someone else saved the same page in the meantime, you are told before anything is overwritten.
  • Pages open for reading; switch to editing with the Edit button.
